How to Wear Your Trays

The first thing to know about wearing Invisalign® is knowing how to insert them in your mouth. When you first open a set of trays, you should rinse them off. From there, they are each labeled with a “U” for upper and an “L” for lower. This ensures that you insert them onto the correct set of teeth. Insert one tray at a time. Gently push them over your teeth and place equal pressure on the left and right molars until they snap into place.

Removing the trays can be a bit difficult at first. Choose a side of your mouth then use your fingertip on the inside of your back molar to gently pull the aligner from those molars. Repeat this process on the other side to remove from the other molars. Once this is done, you can gently remove the tray from your front teeth using your fingertips.

Proper Maintenance and Use of Invisalign®

Wearing Invisalign® properly is important to ensure you get the best and quickest treatment. Following the best practices will give you results while also making sure you take proper care of your trays. You don’t want to risk damaging your trays by performing actions that you shouldn’t be doing while wearing trays. Here are some basics to wearing Invisalign®:

  • Wear your trays day and night.
  • Wear each set for about 2 weeks. Try the next set after. If it doesn’t fit, go back to the old set for a little longer.
  • Don’t throw out any trays in case you have to go back to a previous set.
  • Remove trays from mouth when eating or drinking and always place trays in their case.
  • Keep your trays away from excessive heat.
  • Clean trays with a toothbrush without toothpaste.

Following some of these basic guidelines will keep your trays from harm. Invisalign® can break so it is important to make sure you are taking good care of them. Treating your trays gently and with care will save you from the costs of replacement and any lost time in your treatment.
