You may not realize it, but consuming carbonated beverages, fruit juice, and highly acidic foods every day can be harmful to your teeth! Acidic foods and drinks can create an oral acid imbalance, which over time can cause your teeth can lose minerals and strength. The acid in the foods we eat and drink pull the minerals, calcium and phosphate from tooth structure. The loss of calcium and phosphate from your teeth is called decalcification. The consumption of highly acidic food and drinks in combination with the accumulation of plaque (a sticky, colorless film of bacteria) on the teeth can make a person highly susceptible to decalcifications. Sometimes referred to as white spot lesions, decalcifications have a chalky-white appearance and can cause sensitivity as well as make teeth more prone to tooth decay. Starting January 16th we will be changing our rewards program. As always, we want to thank you for sending your family and friends to our office. Please see below how the program has changed. We are looking forward to implementing this program and giving out some awesome prizes! When you refer any non-family member to our office (and they start active treatment*) you will be rewarded two ways: A $25 gift card to a retailer of your choice. Halloween Survival Guide! The bacteria in your mouth are probably more excited to eat Halloween candy than you are! When the bacteria eat the sugar and leftover food in your mouth, a weak acid is produced. That acid is what attacks the enamel of the teeth and can contribute to cavities. Here are a few ideas to help you sort through the trick-or-treat bag loot and make sure kids keep their teeth healthy and braces intact! Choose Candy Carefully! Chocolate is probably your best bet, especially for kids with braces on! This is good because it’s also the most popular kind of candy handed out on Halloween! Chocolate can wash off your teeth easier than other types of candy. Dark chocolate is even better because it has less sugar than milk chocolate. Pumpkin Decorating Contest: Each team member took home a pumpkin and decorated it for an in office decorating contest. We have pumpkins in each office and we need your help to vote for your favorite pumpkin. Any person that votes will receive 5 extra points on their rewards card. Contest will run until 10/31.
