The Words

Dec 20

Kathryn Stockett’s book The Help has many themes some of which include race, the importance of literature and writing, and society and class.  However another important theme, loving others, is explored through the relationship between Aibileen and Mae Mobley.   Mae Mobley is the two year old daughter of Elizabeth and Raleigh Leefolt.  Aibileen Clark is the maid who takes care of her.  Mae Mobley is neglected and physically and verbally abused by her mother Elizabeth. When Mae Mobley starts to believe these things are her own fault, Aibileen feels compelled to change the girl’s mind.  She tries to instill in the little girl a sense of self-worth by asking Mae Mobley to remember three things, “You is kind.  You is smart.  You is important.”  Abileen realizes that she has the power to influence this young child’s future by teaching her love, kindness and equality. Those three sentences have had a…

The Truth About Invisalign

Oct 18

Just What Is Invisalign? Invisalign® is a brand of clear removable aligners developed by Align Technology in 1998. Clear removable aligners have been used for decades as “retainers” at the end of orthodontic treatment to hold the teeth in their new positions.  Invisalign® provides software and technology that allows a patient’s crooked and misplaced teeth to move in stages.  Each stage is a new set of aligners.  Typically, patients are required to wear their aligners for 22 hours a day and only remove them for meals and tooth brushing. The aligners are changed every 2 weeks with each set gradually moving your teeth into the prescribed place as planned by your Orthodontist. Can Invisalign® Really Move the Teeth as Effectively as Braces?  Yes, absolutely! Since the inception of Align Technology in 1998, more and more orthodontists have been using aligners to treat many different types of cases.   Invisalign®, like…

The Importance of Balance: Controlling Habits

Aug 30

I know…this one seems like a no brainer! If you’re not balanced, you fall over. It’s that simple. The trouble is that sometimes it is hard to realize when you are losing that perfect balance. If we could only sense that loss of perfect balance, then we could adjust and stay right in perfect order. Take our teeth for example. We might have old fillings that may be starting to break down or deteriorate – unbeknown to us! That’s why it’s important to see the dentist regularly to check our teeth and restored teeth. Plus, our habits can throw us out of balance. Like drinking too many sugary drinks that can cause decay or undermine our dental fillings. Or neglecting our tooth brushing after eating. We all know the drill! No pun intended. Additionally, another habit can throw out dental health out of balance — grinding our teeth. Grinding (a.k.a.…

Welcome to our Blog!

Jul 16

We are starting this blog to be able to interact with some of our favorite people, our patients. We will publish posts that entertain, inform and help to keep life fun and interesting. Did you know that we have over 60,000 thoughts every day? Plus 90% of those thoughts are repeated the next day, and every day. So, the best way to learn new thoughts is to read! Reading is like exercise for your brain. A great summer reading book is The Traveler’s Gift by Andy Andrews. It is one of my all time favorites. It is only about 200 pages long, and it teaches some great lessons that you can learn from. I use ideas from that book everyday! If you have not read this book, and would like to purchase it, I have included a link to Andy Andrew’s website.  Please post your thoughts on this great book,…
